Reduction in Research Collaboration Due to COVID-19

The world is facing an unprecedented challenge. The 2030 deadline to meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is edging closer, but the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world have further inhibited progress that was already flagging.

To get on track, the world needs to change its way of thinking about sustainable progress. Rather than looking to traditional metrics, examining actual impact – whether that is social, environmental, economic or other – helps provide a much truer measure of progress.

It is incumbent on everybody – in academia and beyond, from universities through individual beneficiaries to policymakers and SMEs – to expedite efforts towards the SDG target, and measuring impact will provide a vehicle for achieving this.

Insights into the Global Top 100 Higher Education Institutions’ Practices in Achieving the UN SDGs

This document takes a data-focused approach to examine the extent to which higher education institutions, such as universities, are contributing towards the UN’s SDG goals.

What Are the SDGs?

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 different targets that set out a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The goals cover a wide range of objectives, from eliminating poverty and inequalities, through to improving the quality of life below sea and introducing responsible consumption and production.

There is a long way to go, however, before the world is in a position to meet the goals and solve these many challenges. There are many resources available on the UN’s website, if you’d like to learn more.
