Key Principles behind a Strong Impact Case Study (Course IDs: E02a & E02b)

This training workshop can be run either as a half or full day session to provide researchers/academics and/or impact officers/research support staff with a clear understanding of what impact is, why it is important, and the key principles behind a 4* impact case study. For general sessions – for both academics and research support staff – we recommend the half day course where after being run through the above attendees will break out into small groups to assess a mixture of REF 2014 impact case studies. For the full day course – aimed specifically at impact officers and research support staff  – attendees will also be given tips on how to best support academics and then break out into small groups to carry out exercises to further their understanding, individual capacity and confidence to work closely with academics and support the impact of their research.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Attendees to understand the key principles behind what makes a 1* versus a 4* impact case study and be able to assess internal impact case studies appropriately

  • Professional staff to feel comfortable working with individual academics on a 1-2-1 basis and help them to develop their impact case studies
